Marco Benevento just put out an official video for the song "This Is How It Goes," from his 2012 release Tigerface, which was one of AC's favorite albums of the year. The song is one of two on the album that feature vocals by Kalmia Traver of Rubblebucket (check them out). Benevento has always had a knack for the grandiose, and Kalmia's soaring, reverbed-out chorus vocals and overdubbed background melodies seem perfectly suited to Benevento's mode of musical thinking.
The video itself is rather plain by comparison, perhaps with the conscious idea of simply underscoring the song rather than being a piece of art all its own. Fortunately, whether on purpose or not, the song is strong enough to carry the focus of the video, which is more or less a typical "performance" video, featuring the band in a studio setting with various visual effects thrown in here and there. Music nerd note: the album's liner notes list frequent Benevento collaborator Reed Mathis as the bass player on this track, but bassist Dave Dreiwitz (of Ween fame) appears in the video.
