Nosaj Thing - Home
After over three years since his debut LP Drift, this past Tuesday Jason Chung (aka Nosaj Thing) released his second full-length album Home on the Innovative Leisure label.
Drift was reflective of the hip-hop-minded LA beat crowd he's generally associated with, but with a use of space that separated him stylistically from his peers. Home finds Chung exploring even subtler, minimalist territory, pushing further into that space and embracing deep textures. This album is less concerned with head-snapping rhythms; there's a greater emphasis on the vibe and the ambiance. That's not say that the songs don't have a certain pulse, just that they're much farther removed from the hip-hop influence of Drift.
A stand-out track is "Eclipse/Blue," which features vocals by Kazu Makino of Blonde Redhead. The song's video, created by Daito Manabe, was released in November, and features a stunning mixture of live dancing and motion-capture animation. Watch the video below, and read more about its creation here.
