Astronautica - Replay Last Night

Astronautica is producer Edrina Martinez, whose chilled-out debut record Replay Last Night was released this week by Alpha Pup, a label that's a staple of the West Coast beat scene. One can readily hear the influence of her LA counterparts: the detailing of the percussion sounds, a certain swing to the rhythms, and a somewhat "lo-fi" quality, for lack of a better term. What Martinez brings to the table is a soothing atmosphere; a vibe that would better accompany a summer evening spent on a front porch watching the world go by than making necks snap at a club (not that there's anything wrong with that). While some productions force the listener to zero in on the tones and the rhythms, Astronautica's sounds seem to bubble up from a mellow haze, allowing the mind to detach, daydream, and simply absorb the ambiance.
